  • Local student inducted into honor society
Rachel Deanna Salmans was inducted into the Alpha Phi Alpha Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Butler Community College on October 9, 2005.

Salmans, from Mulvane, majoring in Veterinary Medicine, is the son of Roger and Susan Salmans of Mulvane, KS.

Established in 1918 by two-year college presidents, Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges around the world. The Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming. Students must rank in the top 20% of the class to be invited to membership in Phi Theta Kappa and must maintain high academic standing during their enrollment in the two-year college. Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.7 million members and 1,100 chapters located in 50 United States, United States territories, Canada, and Germany. In 1929, the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges. The Society holds membership in the prestigious Association of College Honor Societies as the general scholarship honor society representing two-year colleges.

Mulvane.org back with a brand new look
Mulvane will now have more options when it comes to getting the latest news. With the return of Mulvane.org, citizens will now have one-stop access to all topics regarding the community. They will also now have the ability to voice their opinions. The newly redesigned site will not only be reporting on the local news but providing an online forum that Mulvanians can sign up for. The owners are hoping that it will attract the attention of the community at large: that citizens will embrace it and use it as a tool to voice their concerns and communicate with each other. They are also hoping that citizens will become more involved in their community via networking through the site.

The opinions expressed within Mulvane.org are not necessarily congruent with those held by its owners or editors. We accept commentaries and editorials from the community at large. It is our goal to provide a forum in which the true voice of the people can be heard. We hope to achieve this by cultivating an environment where Mulvanians can speak out about the issues facing them.
